In conjunction with See Us Support Us month, SFCIPP launched our new Bill of Rights for Children of Detained Parents. The realities of families separated at borders and within our communities is devastating. As service providers and personally impacted people, we are presented with an opportunity to raise our voices together in service of these families. It has been estimated that 500 children who were separated from their families during migration have not yet been reunited. We know that you'll agree that even one child separated from their family is too many.

We hope that this bill of rights, created in the image of our Bill of Rights for Children of Incarcerated Parents, reaches beyond our networks to improve the lives and living conditions of children with detained parents and of children in government custody during parental detention.

As part of our launch we're sharing the Bill of Rights for Children of Detained Parents, our Press Release about the Bill of Rights, and a Rights-to-Realities analysis with policy recommendations. We recognize the number of enforcement agencies involved in these cases and hope that the Bill of Rights will spread across local cities, counties, and regions to shift behaviors happening on the federal level. Furthermore, we hope that the Bill of Rights will encourage an immediate divestment and reallocation of funds from local dollars spent on detention and family separation to family reunification and resources for healing the traumatic effects of detention.
